Dear traveller,
This blog has been in the works for a very long time. I have thought about it so much that at one point I started going in circles. And somewhere in between the impostor syndrome and self-doubt, a crack in the loop appeared.
It took a very strong disturbance in my life to shock me free of this imprisonment of my own mind, but it did the trick. Through pain we are reborn and thus I am, in a way, reborn, too. And I consider it a sign to finally begin what I’ve longed to do for such a long time.
Let me tell you a little bit about why I chose to write this blog in the first place.
I’ve always loved reading and in the past few years, very often via recommendation, I have read some very compelling books that have changed the way I think in a multitude of ways. There was a plethora of ideas, that will ultimately become core topics of this series of blogs, but there was one, that has always served as a foundation of the whole idea.
We humans are creatures of habit. It’s how we simplify our world, make it comfortable for us to live in, they enable us to be prepared for everyday situations and ease our social interactions. But habits can also work against us, since we have internal mechanisms that simply work to keep habits in place and is not exactly equipped to distinguish between their usefulness.
So if we take the habit as a very strong influence on our daily lives, it makes a lot of sense to put some thought into which habits we are nurturing and which ones we’d like to get rid of. And there’s the idea for 100 habits. I understand the number is arbitrary (it could’ve just as well been 87) but the main point is simply to cover one particular habit in each blog entry. Habits I think would be valuable for living a good life and building a good society.
I feel it’s also important to stress that I’m not here to preach, I’m here to search. And writing and discussing is one of the ways I consider fruitful for finding those that are truly valuable. I don’t know the magic truth, nor I am the master of many of the habits that I know I’m going to write about. Some of them, yes, will be habits that I’ve mastered and found they have improved my quality of life and led me to happiness. Others are the ones that I believe will do the same when I eventually master them. And this blog is my way of sharing the ideas that I’m thinking about every day.
If you enjoy reading my thoughts, please don’t be shy and reach out. The blogs are just one part of the recipe. An honest, civil and open-minded discussion is another important one.
Welcome, and feel right at home!
